Library Cards

Residents of incorporated Oak Brook can obtain a library card free of charge. To obtain or renew a library card, visit the Library to complete an application and provide proof of Oak Brook residency. A valid, state-issued photo ID is sufficient. If your photo ID is expired or shows an old address, bring other proof of residency such as postmarked mail or utility bills. Children under the age of 18 need only a completed application and a parent/guardian's signature.

Oak Brook residents who live in an unincorporated area outside of the village's taxing district may purchase a non-resident card. The fee for the current year is $117 for a single user card or $287 for family cards. To determine if you are eligible for a non-resident card, please call 630-368-7700 or visit the circulation desk.

Reciprocal Borrowers

SWAN member library cardholders are already linked with our library and do not have to register separately. Other Illinois public library cardholders outside of SWAN must present their home library card and a valid photo ID in order to register their home library card for borrowing privileges.

Courtesy and Taxpayer Cards

Courtesy cards are available for businesses and non-resident taxpayers located within incorporated Oak Brook. These cards grant borrowing privileges as well as access to the library's various electronic resources. For more information on how to apply, please call 630-368-7700 or visit the Circulation Desk Monday through Friday 9:30 am to 5 pm.

Temporary Cards

Long-term temporary residents may obtain a library card which is valid for one year. This generally applies to nannies or au pairs, foreign exchange students, and in-home caregivers. Applicants require proof of identification and the signature of a resident cardholder on the library card application who assumes responsibility for the account and any items borrowed.

Oakbrook Terrace

The Village of Oakbrook Terrace is a separate municipality from the Village of Oak Brook and is not served by its own public library. However, Oakbrook Terrace residents may apply for a nonresident card at a reduced cost at the Villa Park Public Library. Further instructions and details can be found on the Village of Oakbrook Terrace website.

Automatic Renewals

Eligible materials will renew automatically twice. Ineligible materials include items with holds from other patrons and non-SWAN interlibrary loans. You will receive an email two days before an item is due indicating if it will or will not renew.
